Coaching Philosophy, Megan Kilfoil

The statement "The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand, and done so while playing with passion," is the base for this coaching philosophy.  The players on this team will improve as individuals but the main concept is that they learn to play as a team and put the team before themselves.  This will go for players, coach, and individuals as there is no "I" in "team".

All people involved in the program which would include parents, players, coaches and all those who surround the program will be treated with respect and have the option to speak with one another or the coach at anytime as long as it has been arranged prior to the meeting.  There is one rule that will be enforced and that is the 24 hour rule, in which no player, parent, or coach may speak to me or me to them within 24 hours after the game.  This will allow for some cooling off time and time to get thoughts and words collected rather than react on emotion and say things that are not meant.

Values that players will learn from this program will be more technical than tactical.  Our goal is to teach them the fundamentals of soccer at a higher level but not bypass them completely.  Along with this, there will be some tactical opportunities in which things will be taught at that time.  Teamwork will be the primary focus.  It will be based on how the team can play better and connect better on the field.  At the same time there will be opportunities and times where individual skill will be worked on.  These things will be taught everyday as teaching and repetition are important to understanding the game and your teammates.

Finally, evaluation comes not only from the bliss of winning but it's the feeling of accomplishment when the team has played well together and left everything on the field.  Ultimately, it is about each player pushing one another to become a better individual.  In the end, it is the player that is the primary focus.

Lastly, it comes down to hard work and giving 100% because "Winners make a commitment, losers make a promise."
